I chose to make these curtains as full as I possibly could, initially I wanted to make a heavy door curtain, and add in a layer of wadding or lining, as the kitchen is the coldest room in the house, and that cold gets into the living room where i work, and I don’t have a door in between these rooms. And I don’t want one either! It would just get in the way!
The fullness of any curtain, means using extra lengths of fabric, the more you use, the fuller the curtain, so I used 2 superking size duvets covers, took them apart, and chose these colours because Pink is my favourite and this doorway is the one that I see the most everyday, going in and out of each room. So its the one that I see all the time! 😉
Both duvet covers are satin or poly-cotton, so very durable but without the wadding or warm lining they have ended up very light, and I had no idea I would get such a stunning look when the sun shines through on a bright day! I am so chuffed with this one.
I may make myself another one, for winter use, when I can get my hands on an old blanket and some more velvet, current situation, means no charity shops open, and I have no old blankets to use.
This curtain took me a day to make, and it reversible, most curtains you only really see one side, but knowing that this curtain was going to be seen on both sides, meant I had to really think what pattern I wanted on the kitchen side, and I chose the black and white floral kind of pattern, which will match the design I have for my kitchen! Which is next on my list to decorate! I cant stand the way my kitchen currently looks… so a spring clean and another transformation is on the cards! 😉
Bring on the warmer, brighter, longer days 😉
