These photos show the transformation of my bedroom. It was the second room to decorate in the house, and I decided to do this room first for my own sanity.
The rest of the house was shabby and tatty and old and tired, and I thought to myself, if I get my own room, my own personal space sorted, then it will do my mental state so much good, to be able to tackle the rest of the house, knowing that I had a beautiful and bright colourful room to retreat too, after a hard days grafting elsewhere.
I also needed a space to do my sewing, and so the room became a bedroom/sewing room, and i first started to learn my Yoga in this room too. I have had many of these loft beds over the years, I love the mezzanine style rooms and beds. It frees up valuable floor space, and creates a cosy nest place for sleeping.
I had to strip the walls, scrub mould off the wood work around the windows, the ceiling had grubby marks on them, and the carpet got trashed while decorating, so I had to ditch it. I ended up painting around the carpet, I had to put the bed up and away, against the wall, then get it out again each day! This room took ages, and completed it over 2 years.
The shelving I created from wood from b n q, it was rough and to save more painting, I covered them in fabric and stapled the fabric to the shelves, and the batons I used for each shelf came from a donation from a friend, during making the shelves I ran out of baton, and so I went downstairs, took a hammer to the un-used picture rials that was all around the living room walls, and prised it off, and then went and used it upstairs, so I could finish the shelves without having to go out yet again and get more DIY supplies. It was an ingenious spur of the moment thing, and made sure the crappy picture rail was recycled 😉
My cat Ziggy was moved around the house in her box and was always by my side, as seen in a few of these photos. She just wanted to be near me, even if there was chaos everywhere. the perfect companion.
